Today Saturday 23 October 2010. It is decided, we are doing the route of Cheverny again which we had to shorten at the last minute, during one of our previous trip, in order to avoid going back home … by night.
So we are gone again for a trip, from Blois as usual at the beginning of the afternoon, under a grey sky. The route takes us to Vineuil like the last trip did so nothing new to report. On the road to Mont-près-Chambord, we can feel the first drops of rain but nothing to worry for the moment … the Chatmouettes are confident !
We continue for a few kilometres with a grey sky more and more threatening, until the city centre of Mont-près-Chambord which looks like deserted, the shops being closed !
Farther, we pass in front of the biggest natural swimming-pool of France, and which is, indeed, closed at the moment.
Then, we cycle in the middle of the fields, and, when taking a bend, we stop to take a picture of funny creatures with feathers.
After this “nature discovery” stop, we start up again with renewed vigour for a few kilometres until the next crossroads where we turn toward west on the right, for the town of Cour-Cheverny, the rain is calming down a little.
A bit farther on the road, we stop again for a short while, when passing by a bridge straddling the Beuvron just to immortalize the moment forever …
It’s not late before we go back on the road again, as we can already feel the drops of rain, but this time, heavier than before.
Farther, it’s in a heavy rain that we reach Cour-Cheverny. And here, we have to bow to the evidence, the Chamouettes won’t go to Cheverny once again today, so close however ! Indeed, with the rain which doesn’t stop falling, and the wind blowing, we’d rather change our route to shorten the return and go home quicker.
So goodbye Cheverny and hello Cellettes. Arriving in the area around this town, after passing a muddy way, we start to be really wet and frozen stiff but fortunately we’ve got an aim in mind to motivate us : a nice hot chocolate when arriving.
In the meantime, we have to cycle with our wet clothes and heavier with the weight of water, without mentioning the fact that we almost don’t feel our hands and feet anymore. Anyway, we have had better times !
After crossing the Beuvron, still so green (see bicycle ride Blois, Chailles, Cellettes, Seur), we arrive in sight of Beauregard’s castle.
A bit farther on the road, we enter into the national forest of Russy, which doesn’t even protect us from the rain. Here, we cycle about 7km more in the big lanes of the forest before going back to civilization at Saint-Gervais-la-Forêt. We are almost there and the rain slow down, at last !
We finish by the road of Blois which takes us straight to our hot chocolate.
